Going To The Movies

August 25, 2010 by: Ace Winget

It is always a treat to go watch a movie. Both the young and old find it an exciting experience. Watching a movie in the theater is an experience that cannot be missed.

Some individuals that are in a wheelchair or scooter choose not to go to the theater. The most common reason is because they fear the crowds that they will face. If they only knew how much the theater accommodates for them, they might be more willing to go.

Movie theaters want the business of as many people as they want. They also want to be fair and accommodate for individuals. Accommodating for individuals will increase their comfort.

When customers are more comfortable, then they are more likely to come again. This is the most logical reason that movie theaters accommodate for individuals in a wheelchair or scooter. Every theater accommodates in their own way, but there are popular ways.

The concession stand is one area that movie theaters modify for individuals in wheelchairs. Generally concession stands are at the level of a bar height. A section of the concession stand will be lowered to table height in a way to accommodate for various individuals.

By lowering the counter, the individuals in a wheelchair or scooter can see the candy selection. It also gives them the advantage of seeing the price boards up on the wall. The greatest thing that lowering the counter does is that the individual will feel as an equal.

Another area that they try to accommodate is in the actual movie theater. The movie theater does have comfortable chairs, but they do try to offer the individuals in wheelchairs to sit in their own. The theater does this through having empty slots on the ends of the aisles that would fit a wheelchair or scooter.

Handicapped parking spaces are the most obvious accommodation. The spaces are located at the front entrance of the building. They also have added space around them to insure room for ramps, lifts, or for wheelchairs.
