Why Hunger Diets Slow Your Metabolism
August 27, 2010 by: Mike GeorgeOK. You’ve had it. You’re fed up. You just looked in the mirror and you don’t like what you see. To put it bluntly, you’re fat and you don’t like it even one little bit. It’s time to take drastic action. If fact you’re thinking that you’re just going to stop eating until your mirror tells you you can start again.
You’ve tried “quit eating” diets before and sometimes you’ve actually lost weight. For a while. You’ve also tried low carb diets, low fat diets, low calorie diets and practically every other type of diet that seems like it may work. You may have also attended a weight loss program at one time.
The primary reason that popular weight loss diets are ineffective is that they require you to live most of your day in a state of being unfulfilled. That’s right. You may not go around feeling actually hungry, but you have this nagging feeling that you want to have something to eat. And what is it that you would most like to eat? The chances are that you want something that’s on your no-no list. Like maybe a nice pizza or perhaps some candy or even better a nice hamburger.
There’s a reason that low fat, low carb diets don’t work beside just being difficult to stay on. They actually throw your body into starvation mode. That means that instead of your body reacting in a positive way to the lack of calories it is experiencing, it believes that there is a food shortage. So instead of burning fat to keep you at proper nutrition levels, it starts burning muscle. It will only burn fat once it’s burned through all the muscle it thinks it can safely consume. So once you start losing muscle mass, your metabolism rate declines. You’re body requires less food and so you have to eat even less to keep up the weight loss progress you have made so far.
One way to lose weight is so simple and easy to do the wonder is most people just don’t do it. That is to drink eight, eight ounce glasses of water a day. Water is a diuretic. In a sense it just washes your fat away. Now of course it’s a little more complicated than that, but that’s all you really need to know.
If drinking water to lose weight is so simple and easy to do, why doesn’t everyone do it? Perhaps one answer is that water by itself just doesn’t taste good. Also the thought of constantly running to the bathroom just doesn’t sound appealing. One solution would be to mix something with the water that helps its taste, like Crystal Lite. Give it a try. If you’re serious, what have you got to lose, your weight?
The truly successful weight loss program depends on a modification of your eating habits. Not for a few days, weeks or months, but for the rest of your life. That means several things have to be a part of your eating habits. You have to like the food you eat. You have to be able to eat enough of it to feel full after a meal and finally, it has to provide your body with enough vitamins, minerals, calories and other necessities to stay healthy.
