A Good Diet For Weight Loss

September 5, 2010 by: Stephen "the Body" Jones

Having a good diet for weight loss is essential when trying to work out on a regular basis. Exercise alone is not enough to help someone lose weight, but will help to keep the body in better shape. Here are a few ideas on what to include in a healthy diet to help you lose weight.

Eating three times a day is essential to losing weight. Missing one meal a day causes the body to think it will be starved of nutrients, so it will begin to eat the next meal feverishly without regard to how healthy it is. So if you miss a meal, the body will absorb all the fats from the next meal first to create energy. If too many fats are eaten, they will be stored for later.

A fast way to lose weight is to watch your intake of calories daily. The average for an adult is 2,000 calories per day. Limiting your intake to around 1,500 will help a person take in less carbs as well as fats, which also helps in weight loss.

Other ways of losing pounds could be to take in less starch or sugars. When starches are eaten they are turned into sugar, which adds to the natural sugars in your diet. Eating additional sugars can raise blood sugars which is responsible for diabetes, but can also offer only short periods of energy and doctors find them to be unhealthy when eaten in excess.

Make sure to eat three meals a day, no matter the caloric intake you require. This also means that you should include something from each food group in the recommended servings. Try to eat at the same times daily so that the body gets used to having the food so it does not horde what is taken in, therefore helping with weight loss.

Losing weight with only a diet is unhealthy since exercise is a requirement. If you are beginning a new exercise and diet, you should talk to your physician. This is even more true for people that have medically controlled health problems.
