Common Diet Foods You Have To Avoid

September 4, 2010 by: Katherine Crawford

Nutrition has become a very confusing subject for many people. After all, savvy entrepreneurs have flooded the information highways with endless misinformation.

Unfortunately, if you don’t have a PhD in nutrition, separating the wheat from the chaff can be virtually impossible.

Thus, without further ado, here are some diet foods you need to reevaluate:

1. Omega three pills: Omega three fatty acids are arguably some of the healthiest molecules you can put in your body. But when consumed in excess their health benefits begin to fade. In fact, you are better off getting your omega three fatty acids from whole foods.

2. Synthetic fats: The most lethal fats of them all are trans fats. You see, trans fats are manipulated in such a way that they can actually change the integrity of your cell’s membranes. In fact, many people within the medical community call them membrane active drugs.

3. Tuna: Canned tuna is not that expensive and has lots of protein. The main problem here, however, is that it has a significant amount of mercury. Thus, you are far better off having other sources of protein in your diet.

4. Eggs that have been modified: Making a chicken eat a diet that increases the omega three content of its eggs doesn’t necessarily make its eggs healthy. You see, even though these eggs have more omega three fatty acids in them, they also have high amounts of saturated fats.

5. Stevia: Or any other artificial sweetener needs to be consumed in moderation here for the best results. You see, we still don’t know if artificial sweeteners are safe. Thus, it’s in your best interest to minimize consumption here as much as possible.

6. Smoothies: Smoothies and juicers are not the optimal way to get your nutrition. The problem here is that any time you liquefy or blend something you increase its digestion rate. This in turn can spike blood sugar and completely shut down fat burning.

Just because a product is labeled as a diet food doesn’t mean that its healthy. So make sure you take heed of this advice and take control of what you put into your body!
