Daniel Day Lewis’ Greatest Acting Performances In Years Past
September 5, 2010 by: Arnold MurphyOne of the most talented, yet mysterious actors out there is, in my opinion, Daniel Day Lewis. It seems that any time he stars in a movie, he gets an Academy Award nomination. At the same time, however, it seems like he doesn’t like to act in films too often.
This article will cite some of my favorite films starring the great Daniel Day Lewis.
If you have never seen a Daniel Day Lewis movie, then a great place to start would be the film that won him the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, My Left Foot. Lewis stars as the inspirational Christy Brown, an artist with cerebral palsy.
When it comes to epic films starring Daniel Day Lewis, it is hard to get a film better than The Last Of The Mohicans. There are few movies about the French and Indian War, and maybe that is because Michael Mann and crew set the bar so high with this 1992 war epic.
I can say with certainty that one of the best cinematic villains we have seen in recent years is Bill “The Butcher” Cutting Martin Scorsese’s film, Gangs Of New York. This movie also happens to star Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio.
There Will Be Blood is my favorite Daniel Day Lewis movie of all of them. I can’t even put into words how great his acting is in this movie. He completely owns the part of Daniel Plainview and this movie must be seen to fully understand what I mean. This is one of the best films of the year and it was no surprise that he won an Oscar for this movie.
One other film of Lewis’ which I feel the need to mention is A Room With A View. This film was released in 1985, and while I normally do not like romance movies, this one was rather enjoyable.
Hopefully there is at least one film on this list of Daniel Day Lewis’ that you have not seen before.
