Since the brain is the one organ that controls the whole nervous system, you would want to take care of it and keep it healthy at all times. It can be considered as the control tower of the human body since it is where information like body activity is being processed. A dead brain is equivalent to a vegetable-like body so if you want the rest or your body to function properly, take care of your brain through brain-healthy habits.

Sleeping probably comes first when we talk about exercises that develop the brain. It is during sleep that the different parts of your brain responsible for producing various types of memories are being held together. Sleep is also good if you want to develop your long-term memory. Studies have shown that people who get enough sleep can recall things better than people who do not.

There are some matters you really cannot overemphasize and one them is the fact that stress kills! Do you know that stress hormones that remain in the hippocampus for a long time can actually kill your brain cells? Your brain’s hippocampus is the area where memory cells are being generated. When you are always under stress, the hippocampus tends to shrink. The result is a poor memory.

Do you know that you can actually feed your brain? What I mean is, there are foods that are perfect for the brain as there are foods good for the heart. In fact, most of heart-healthy foods are also brain-healthy. Food rich in omega-3 like tuna, mackerel, and salmon are all good brain foods. Other brain-healthy food may include your favorite chocolate and almond, coffee and also berries. Delicious aren’t they?

If you want to improve your memory, try working out with games that will require you to think deep and hard. Such games may include mastermind, crossword puzzle and many more. Whenever you play games like these your hippocampus produce more new cells and more cells means better memory.

Other games that help you achieve an extra power up for your brain are Boggle, Chinese checkers and Sudoku. These games basically require you to play against time, helping you improve your memory processing speed. If you have some free time try these games out. They will surely help you build a strong brain.
