How To Build Up Muscles

September 4, 2010 by: Ben Johnson

We all gain weight at some time, whether intentionally or otherwise. None of want, however, just useless fat added to our frame, muscle is much more appealing.

There are also those who would love to put weight on, but due to their super fast metabolisms, they burn calories at an alarming rate. There are ways that even these folk can gain weight, despite their metabolisms.

I have a few ideas here that you can try if you want to gain weight. Even the fastest of metabolisms slow down at night, so get stuck into a hearty meal just before you go to bed. Don’t eat anything likely to cause heartburn or indigestion; just something stodgy of about 800 calories will do the trick.

So what should you do when you’re awake? Increase your calorie intake, that’s what! You need to take in more than you can burn off, and with your metabolism that means at least 4 meals a day and lots of high calories snacks in between.

The trickiest bit can be when it comes to exercise, and here’s why. We all know that cardio is vital to keeping out heart healthy and also for our overall fitness. Hard exercise, however, burns off even more calories, which we don’t want. The key is not to cut out your cardio, but cut down. Even by reducing by 5 minutes a day will have the desired effect.

Lifting weights is great for both adding bulky muscles to your frame and also for gaining weight, the key is in the weight you lift and also the reps. For bulk, lower weights and more reps, for weight gain, higher weight and less reps.

If all the extra calories and less exercise still aren’t adding weight to your frame, then you will just have to accept that that’s the way you are meant to be, and you can actually look forward to middle age spread.
