Lampshade Cleaning Tips For Your Lamps
September 4, 2010 by: Gina KirkalA beautiful lampshade on a lamp base can really change the entire ambient of a room. However a dirty one might dampen the looks of the most elegant room instead. So it is important that your lampshade, just like your curtains and furniture upholstery, is as clean as possible at all times. Here are a few tips to help you get this task underway the fastest way possible with the best results.
There are two additional benefits of having a clean lampshade beside making your room look much neater: prolonged life and extra light coming through the material which will allow you to better see whatever you’re doing, be it reading, or crafting or even cooking.
Depending on the material your shade is made of, you can clean it in a couple of different ways. For example you might have lamp shades made of parchment, paper, glass, fabric and many others.
When it comes to fabric shades, you should always dust them with a bristled brush on a regular basis. Work from the top to bottom in small parts. Use long sweeping movements to get rid of the accumulated dust prior to continuing with another section.
Don’t let your long fingernails snag into the fringes of fabric as besides hurting your nails, you can easily cause a rip on the material. Use a blow dryer to first blow away most of the dust and only then go ahead with the brush.
If your lampshade is made of glass, use a soft cloth to get rid of the dust particles that regularly settle on its surface. Also remove the shade from its fitting to properly clean it with a wet and soapy wipe, both on the inside and on the outside. Before you reassemble your shade, make sure that it is completely dry and that the light bulb and wire fittings are also clean and dry.
