Basic Treatment Options For Persistent Headaches
October 9, 2010 by: Erina KawasakiAccording to David Buchholz, a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and author of the book “Heal Your Headache: A 1-2-3 Program for Taking Charge of Your Pain”, headaches are natural but they are not necessary. We all know that he is right in saying that. Headaches can rob you of your time to work and enjoy life. In addition, although painkillers can give you a quick fix, they are not advisable. Use natural cures for your headache instead.
One of the best natural remedy for any headache is a nice massage. Ask somebody to massage your scalp and your neck muscles. This will cause your blood to circulate, thus relieving the tension that you are feeling. This remedy works almost every time and takes effect almost immediately.
Another remedy that works like massage is hot compress. Placing a hot towel over your shoulder and neck will allow your muscles and your nerves to relax resulting in a soothing feeling. After a while, you will notice that your headache has subsided. If it does not work, go to the bathroom and have a warm bath.
If you don’t want a hot compress, that’s okay. There is always cold compress to act as substitute. Take your towel and dip it in cold water. After that, wrap the towel halfway around your neck. The coldness will numb the muscles on the area behind your head causing the pain to subside.
Your headache can be a result of many different things like lack of proper sleep, stress, anxiety and bad eating habits. You will notice that your head always aches each time you fail to get 8 hours of sleep. That is because your muscles were not able to get enough rest causing them to be overexerted. Eat and sleep properly if you want to avoid future occurrences of headaches.
After you’ve tried everything and you still get recurring headaches, maybe it’s time for you to see a chiropractor or a neurologist. Both are trained to investigate and treat disorder that has to do with nerves on the head, neck and spine. This idea may be not be economic for you especially if you are on a tight budget, but it is your last resort if you really want to get rid of your stubborn headaches.
