You’re waiting to place your order and you’re looking at the menu. Your eye drifts over the Angus burger promotion. Boy that sounds good! You think, “You know I’ve lost some weight recently, I think I’ll just reward myself with a nice, juicy Angus burger. I’ll do the salad the next time.” Aren’t those Angus burgers great?
Hamburgers can be really, really tasty. But you’ve let your discipline slip a little by giving in, just this once, to eating what you really like. The clincher is that when you weigh yourself later that day you are happy to see that you didn’t gain any weight at all. So you put hamburgers on your diet. After all they are high in protein and they help you to eat healthy.
Now here’s the double whammy to your diet.
As you eat less than you really require to support your body, your body says “There’s a famine. I’ve got to protect myself because I don’t know when the food shortage will end.” So your body starts consuming muscle. It will save the fat for later. That’s because fat is for an extended emergency.
The net result is that you have to eat less and less in order to continue with your weight loss program.
There are ways to lose weight, but it’s not suffering through low calorie, low carb, small portion diets.
