There aren’t many people who don’t love sodas. They’re cool and sweet with a great taste. Not to mention the zing you get from the effervescence.
They are refreshing but, believe me, sodas are not what we should be drinking. Allow me to explain the reasons why.
First of all, sodas are bad for your teeth. Whether it’s the coloring, the sugars, or the other chemicals inside diet sodas, they’re all bad for your teeth.
Don’t be fooled Even something like Sprite, though clear, will turn your teeth yellow if you drink it regularly. No one wants yellow teeth!
Sodas also contribute to weight gain. Sure, they have no fat, but that means nothing when it comes to sodas. All of the sugars convert to fat if they’re not burned off, which is why people drink diet sodas to begin with.
While I’m on the subject, diet sodas are not the great slimming aids they appear to be. Studies have revealed that even sodas containing no calories can contribute to weight gain. The sweet flavor and chemicals actually hoodwink our brain into thinking we’re consuming sugars and our body behaves just as if we’d drunk an ordinary soda. So ironic, isn’t it?
As refreshing as they might seem, sodas that contain caffeine actually make you thirstier. They contain water, of course, but the caffeine in them is a diuretic and this reduces their hydrating power. If you’re going to slake your thirst with a soda, it’s best to have some water with it.
But all is not lost. It’s still possible to enjoy a sweet carbonated drink without damaging your health. There are a few sparkling juice drinks on the market that contain no added chemicals or sugar. Take more care of yourself by opting for one of these alternatives next time, you’ll feel all the better for it.
